Catherine Scanlon Offers {NEW} Trend-Setting Mixed Media Product

I have been having a creative time exploring the world of mixed media lately!  The tools, paints, sprays, ink and . . the PAPER!

Recently, I have had the wonderful good fortune of working with renowned designer, Catherine Scanlon.

A studied artist, Catherine is breaking out of her behind-the-scenes role at EK Success and is now blazing her own trail from her home studio in Topsham, Maine.  Here's a little lookie-loo:
You can find MORE Scanlon Studio piccies on our
facebook page at: www.facebook.com/NEPaperCrafts ~
Catherine Scanlon lends her talents to the Sizzix Design Team and is a member of the "Inspire! New England Paper Crafts" Cre8time Team.

During my visit with Catherine, I caught wind of her newest project.  Undoubtably, it's going to be a trend-setter!  Her mixed media Art Journal Coloring Book!
Wanting to drive this concept to market immediately, Catherine is self-publishing this amazing work.  It's lithograph-printed right in Brunswick, Maine on 9" X 12" 80lb paper and she's handling all the orders herself!  She has put her heart into this and she's determined to ensure that artists receive a premium product.
I have held the original art of these amazing sheets in my own hands.  I have to tell you, it was overwhelmingly inspiring - I just wanted to stash it in my purse and run home to work on it!!
Want a peek at a glorious example of these types of journal pages can look like?  Catherine has some great samples of her work on her instagram and facebook page, and here are a few examples of her work (keeping in mind that these two particular page designs are not the ones included in this first collection):
If you're looking for a way to get "straight to the good stuff" of mixed media art journaling, or are looking for a way to introduce the art form to others, Catherine Scanlon has the answer you're looking for!

Now, Catherine Scanlon only has a very limited number of this first edition of her Art Journal Coloring Book.  After 100 are gone, they're GONE!  I have mine on order, and I suggest you do the same, too!
Catherine Scanlon has an upcoming personal appearance scheduled at Kept Creations in Whitman, Massachusetts, teaching her "Floral Image Transfer Canvas" class tomorrow, Saturday, July 13th, 11am - 5pm.  Contact Kept Creations to sign up NOW, because this 6 hour class just about sold out! **Catherine will have 20 Coloring Books on hand, so make sure you come prepared!

**And for those paper crafters, Catherine Scanlon has her {NEW} online class just for US!  Check out her "In + Out Embroidery for PaperCrafters" on My Creative Classroom.  It's coming up QUICK, beginning on July 22nd!
Again, Catherine has only 100 of this first edition of her Art Journal Coloring Book available and they're due to ship SOON.  Be sure to contact her directly at cmscanlon@comcast.net for your copies in advance, to ensure you receive them for yourself.  I did!

Boston Strong Flags are Flying at MFA

Boston Strong Flags are flying at Museum of Fine Arts Boston, thanks to the wonderful work coordinated by professional crafter, Amy Friend.

Following the 2013 Patriot's Day terror attack on participants and attendees of Boston, Massachusetts' signature event, The Boston Marathon, crafters from around the world felt motivated to show their support to the citizens of that great city.

One of the crafters inspired to reach out, Vancouver, Canada quilter Berene Campbell, contacted Boston-area artist, Amy Friend, with the concept of banding sewers together into a collaborative effort.

Amy Friend has a large following within the crafting community.  She's a design team member for Sizzix, Basic Grey and Therm-O-Web.  She has newly organized the popular Seacoast Modern Quilt Guild and supports the art community as a member of "Inspire! New England Paper Crafts" CRE8TIME team.

A former museum curator, Amy Friend has the professional experience and industry influence needed to spearhead a broad-based concept into a full reality.

Working hand-in-hand with multiple departments at the Museum of Fine Arts - from detailing the concept, promoting the opportunity to artisans to join the effort, handling press inquiries, to coordinating with the actual installation - this stay-at-home-mom worked tirelessly for a month to pull all the details of this enormous undertaking together on a remarkable short timeline.

The response was overwhelming.  Not only did Amy reach her goal of collecting 1,000 flags of support and peace, she singlehandedly opened, processed, delivered and helped install over 1,700 pieces of work that swamped her post office box in under a month!  Incredible!

To experience the "To Boston With Love" installation, it can be viewed at the Museum of Fine Arts through July 7th in the Shapiro Family Courtyard, with a reinstallation scheduled for April 2014.

To see more of Amy Friend, follow her blog, "During Quiet Time," at: duringquiettime.blogspot.com.

Our hats are off to a gleaming professional, Amy Friend.  She's Boston Strong!

Happy Day, Laurel
